THREE AND MORE BEING TOGETHER
For the debut show at Jacqueline Sullivan Gallery, I was invited to design ten unique pieces in conversation with Gertrude Steins 1915 poem “Substance in a cushion”. Steins words feel to me like layered textures; warm, contrasting with a grit that caresses. The resulting pieces were a translation of these feelings and considerations expressed as tactile objects to be lived with.
Handwoven and hand-brushed from pure virgin wool, these pieces are made using a traditional technique first developed in the 14th century by the Hutsuls in the highlands of Ukraine.
Featuring a hand-stitched label with an excerpt from the poem, created by Isabella Toledo.
Exhibited and sold at Jacqueline Sullivan Gallery, New York.
